Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] People of culture and of the Church are confronted, starting from different disciplinary fields, on a world made global by the fall of ancient barriers and by the development of technologies. In this new and moving theater, which invites believers to an original and creative commitment, special attention is paid to Europe and to the entire West in general, rapidly passing from a condition of political and economic centrality to a more specific situation marginal. A gradual downgrading that does not prefigure "clashes of civilizations", but offers a stimulus to find new opportunities for meeting and development in the changed global landscape. This is a challenge that calls into question parameters that are not only economic but also social, cultural and existential because globalization is a phenomenon that demands to be grasped in the diversity and connection of all its dimensions, including the theological one. And he asks for a real willingness to get back into great discussion. In a framework that highlights the risks and ambiguities hidden in today's supranational processes, the Church finds itself at ease in an inclusive and global vision of the world because it recognizes its vocation to make humanity one family, enlightened by the full truth about man and founded on the values of justice and solidarity.
