I Visconti e la decorazione delle domus pavesi al tramonto del Gotico. Prime ricognizioni

[Autom. eng. transl.] The contribution presents the first results of a research in progress on the figurative culture of Pavia in the second half of the fourteenth century. In particular, the events of the decorative campaigns of the Pavia Castle promoted by Galeazzo II and Gian Galeazzo Visconti are traced on the basis of the published and unpublished documentation. At the same time, a new proposal for reading the fragments of fresco still preserved in the manor is provided, especially as regards the intervention in 1365 of the Bolognese painter Andrea de 'Bartoli (trusted artist of Cardinal Egidio Albornoz) and the construction site supervised by Giovannino de Grassi. In the text, furthermore, further Pavian testimonies of the work of the well-known late Gothic painter are taken into consideration, realized with the collaboration of his brother Porrino: the frescoes of the chapel de Rossi in San Francesco. Finally, interpretative guidelines are provided for the urban transformation of the important center of Lombard production operated by the Viscontis, who remodel the city, correcting the medieval radiocentric layout, and build a series of satellite buildings in the area next to the Castle, among which the domus magna of Bianca di Savoia is particularly important.
