Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Through the examination of the monastic legislation and of the capitular statutes, the different modalities envisaged for the canonical visit, the main instrument of the internal control of the monastic networks, are highlighted. At the beginning of the 13th century, the papacy took on the task of the monastic visit, at first among the monasteries exempt from the episcopal authority and directly subject to the Roman Church, and then promoted the establishment of internal control instruments for the Orders of ancient and new institution, according to the model provided by the Cistercian Order. In this panorama the significant exception constituted by the Order of Friars Minor emerges in full.
