Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The ACVc manuscript, Figured scrolls, 7 shows on a single sheet of considerable dimensions (420min / 500max x 700max), written on both sides, a series of authentic texts and diagrams by Gioacchino da Fiore. In particular, some of the scripta minora of the Calabrian abbot: the Genealogy, the letter to the abbot of "Valdona", the schematic text De septem sigillis; moreover, the diagrams of the trees of the ascending generations (also present in the collection of the "Liber Figurarum") and of the "figure arboris", often associated with the same Genealogy. The fact that this group of texts is often found also in other manuscripts, and in coherent units from the codicological point of view, leads us to reflect on the position of our witness in the tradition, and of any others that can be associated with it by type of support. Moreover, the presence of figures that cover a significant part of the sheet seems to go in the direction of the hypotheses that saw in this type of support the original circulation of the diagrammatic-symbolic images of Gioacchino - in particular those gathered, in fact, in the «Liber Figurarum ». It is not without importance also for the problem of the primitive use of these figures, and of their first tradition, the presence of a dorsal note precisely datable to 1307, with the polemical content towards the «Iohacistas», which seems to be able to be connected to the characters and Vercelli historical context of those years. Also in comparison with the manuscript ACVc, Rotoli figurati, 4, in which around the image of the body of Christ as "ecclesia", but also within the same image, are inserted texts and diagrammatic motifs of Gioacchino (absent instead in a very similar witness of the same image: London, BL, ms. Cotton Roll XIV.12), in an original way and yet extremely close to the constructions and to the same dictation of the Calabrian abbot, seems to indicate the existence of an important channel of transmission of his writings and his speculation - if not really an environment in which they were somehow cultivated.
