Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] After two years of rising prices, 2013 was a year of adjustment for beef meat. The Ismea index has recorded a modest increase, remaining in this way both with respect to the average of livestock products and to total agriculture; this increase is also the result of fairly diversified trends. Prices of reform cows, which had had a tumultuous growth in recent years, have shown a substantial decline, although remaining at historically very high levels; on the contrary, calf prices, which had a negative 2012 and whose index has the lowest values within the sector, have grown significantly. Beyond more or less erratic oscillations, the tendency to better enhance meats and less valuable cuts is therefore confirmed. The first half of 2014 saw prices fall for almost all types analyzed.
