Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume examines the role of trade names in language teaching, with attention to the teaching of Italian L2. After a review of the main linguistic studies on the characteristics of Italian brand names and their diffusion at an international level, we consider the linguistic potential of commercial names in the context of teaching Italian as L2, with a view to developing a lexicultural and onomastic competence in the language. and Italian culture. Among the manifestations of excellence of Italian creativity and entrepreneurship, in the context of the so-called Made in Italy, as a factor of attractiveness and diffusion of Italianness in the world, the Italian design sector is examined. A survey on commercial onomastics in this area is therefore presented, based on a corpus of names of companies and products representative of the history of Italian design, created starting from the names of the objects exhibited at the Italian Design Museum of the Triennale di Milan. Part of the analysis is dedicated to a business case, namely the history of the Aurora company and the names of its fountain pens, as an example of an Italian company, which has contributed to the spread of Italianness throughout the world. The volume ends with a section, which illustrates examples of teaching activities for Italian L2 focused on Italian design markers, with the aim of offering methodological and operational suggestions for language teaching design.
