Abstract
For many years, the problem of identifying the choices of the organizational model by financial intermediaries was not of absolute centrality, also because the adoption of some models, such as that of the universal bank, was in fact precluded by legislation. With the entry into force at the beginning of 1994 of the Consolidated Banking Act, however, the range of organizational models potentially usable by intermediaries has expanded considerably. The result has been a variety of organizational solutions that banks have equipped themselves with in an attempt to make the conduct of banking activities more adequate, effective and functional and more consistent with their size and the chosen business model. In the practical impossibility of identifying the absolute “best” model, it is however possible, in this chapter, to explain the various alternatives available to intermediaries, their characteristics and the aspects that distinguish the different organizational configurations.
