Abstract
The migration is a critical event affecting the quality of relationships of family members and its effects on the dynamics of families can be prolonged over time. In the different phases of migration process the family is required to take care of the affective and ethical bonds linking family members.
The contribution examines according a psycho-social perspective the challenges and tasks the adult generation has to deal with in order to maintain positive bonds with the family of origin, the partners and the offspring. The basic assumption is that across all these bonds the immigrant adult generation has to cope with the fundamental transition task , that of seeking a balance between the need to safeguard family continuity in terms of identity and that of actively elaborating within the family dynamics the demands and influences coming from the host culture and society.
