Abstract

Can promoting a European identity favor youth’s moral development and positive attitudes towards immigrants? Two studies have been carried out to investigate this research questions. Almost 1000 Italian young people (14-25 years old) participated in the studies. The results have provided some evidence that, actually, identifying with the European Union is associated with youth’s higher levels of identification with the moral values funding the EU and higher levels of openness towards immigrants. Therefore, policies and educational interventions should be realized in order to promote the development of a European identity among youngsters.
