Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] At first ignored, then opposed, then welcomed as benefactors of staggering financial capitalism, finally hit by heavy losses in the international financial crisis: sovereign wealth funds have risen to the forefront of public opinion with striking investments in US and European Union companies. The Gulf countries, Singapore, China, Libya, Russia, as well as Norway, thanks to their huge energy and trade surpluses, are the main protagonists of this scenario. How are sovereign wealth funds born? What are their investment strategies? With what consequences on the geopolitical level? How have international institutions moved to encourage transparency? The volume answers these questions by offering an updated picture of the phenomenon
