Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The contribution examines the innovative vision of childhood underlying the decree "Quam singulari Christus amore" (1910), with which, during the pontificate of Pius X, the age of admission of children to the first communion was brought forward to seven years. The analysis of the document and other devotional sources of the time allows us to understand how this turning point in infant religious education allowed the ecclesial circles of the early twentieth century to develop a new and positive conception of the child, attentive also to its social and emotional needs. On the basis of this hypothesis, some further research avenues are also suggested that can shed light on the role of the Church in the definition of the educational imagery on children during the 20th century.
