Abstract
The work is about the presence of Shakespeare’s plays in the Italian literary periodicals of the beginning of the 20th century. From this work it clearly comes out that Hamlet is the play Italian critics are most interested in, while the poems are left apart. The articles taken into consideration show two particular schools of thought: one gives importance to the historical context which produced these plays while another prefers to deal with the plot these plays put on stage. In addition to all this, there is a series of theories suggesting each one a different approach to Shakespeare’s texts. This work offers a survey of the Italian critical approach to Shakespeare. Croce, Praz, Rebora are just a few names of the great Italian literary personalities of the early 20th century taken into consideration in this work.
