Abstract
Between 1843 and 1866 Felice Le Monnier published in the Biblioteca Italiana 247 titles of authors, mostly Italians, with the intention of proposing texts by authors, both classic and modern, from different fields of knowledge, but unified by the same purpose: to foster a National sentiment with titles and authors who were able to combine a political with a literary concern. This essay reconstructs the context of these "books that have made Italy" and, through a detailed analysis of each works, it will also point out the criterion: to offer texts which were philologically accurate trough the efforts of the best critical minds.
