Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay investigates those environments of Catholicism in Bergamo that, since the end of the episcopate of Camillo Guindani (187-1904), renewed the presence of the Church within the modern world. The leaders of Bergamo, in particular the young people linked to the Christian-democratic movement, within the pastoral care of Giacomo Maria Radini Tedeschi (1905-1914), Roman but adherent to the present, opened the diocese to social processes, through initiatives such as the Office of work. Christian syndicalism, particularly on the occasion of the Ranica strike, thus attracted suspicion on the part of the Holy See, worried that this renewal, filtering into the Seminary, through the professors engaged in professional unions and white leagues, could compromise the solidity of the institution ecclesiastical in the face of modern erotic culture.
