Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The gap between research and practice refers to cases in which research struggles to be applicable in concrete contexts, such as healthcare, with a significant impact on the organization of care, the provision of services and health outcomes. This aspect adds up, in health systems such as the Italian one, to a strong variability in access to quality care and in health outcomes between Regions and in the same territory. The expression “knowledge transfer”1 is used to explain the iterative process of synthesis and exchange from health research results to quality improvement in clinical practice. Understanding and applying all this is essential to implement scientific evidence promptly and effectively.
