Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] During the Low Middle Ages the common Italian citizens tried to discipline the problem of disability from a legal point of view. The paper attempts a first approach to this question starting from the analysis of the statutory texts of some municipalities of central-northern Italy in the XIII-XV centuries. From the comparative analysis of these sources it emerges how the city authorities have tried to tackle the social problem of sickness / disability by following both inclusive and exclusive strategies in order to realize that single tension to the order that constituted one of the main engines of civic coexistence late medieval.
