Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Ecuador is one of the countries with the highest levels of biodiversity, thanks to a mountain range that runs from the north to the south of the country, separating it into three different ecosystems, which in turn are divided by numerous transition zones. This wealth is even more surprising given the small size of the territory.
Ecuador's natural diversity is combined with a wide linguistic and ethnic variety, two closely related diversifications that give rise to what scholars call biocultural diversity.
Pollution and exploitation of the territory, invasion of foreign species, fragmentation of habitats and overpopulation threaten Ecuador's biocultural diversity. A danger faced by natives who try to combine tradition with modernity.
