Abstract
The work focuses on a kind of ideal slavery, that of so-called friends of the king in the Hellenistic court, an aspect considered by Greeks and Macedonians of oriental origin. Through the reading of sources it emerges a dialectic “Oriental slavery-Hellenic freedom” that is already in Herodotus and continues to be a leitmotiv in the Hellenistic age according to the historians of Alexander the Great and Polybius.
