Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] 2021 marked a real turning point for all production sectors, but in particular for dairy cattle which has suffered a strong jolt since the middle of the year following the increases recorded in the prices of energy raw materials and feed with the consequent drastic crushing of farmers' margins. The effects on production companies will be more evident in the future when there will probably be a recovery in the abandonment rate of medium-small stables, which, however, had shown a certain tenacity in more recent years. In a European context of declining production, the quantity of milk produced in Italy has increased, as has the number of cows that have given birth in specialized dairy herds, while the number in dual purpose herds has significantly decreased.
