Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] But how do couples face in which one of the two partners has experienced adoption? This is precisely the focus of this research. The research was conducted by a team of the University Center for Studies and Research on the Family of the Catholic University of Milan and was carried out in collaboration with the CIAI (Italian Center for Childhood Aid, Authorized Body for International Adoptions). The theoretical reference matrix is the relational-symbolic paradigm according to which adoption is conceived as one of the critical non-normative events in the family life cycle. In order to achieve the objective of the transition, family members are called upon to perform certain specific developmental tasks, attributable to the construction of a common family belonging, based on the recognition and enhancement of the difference of origin, lineage and often also ethnic son. Adoption represents a “complex family situation”: the adopted person finds himself at every critical turning point to have to deal with his dual origin or how to maintain, revive, re-signify his connection with the adoptive family and at the same time not neglect its connection with biological origin. The aim of the research is to understand how the experience of motherhood leads to changes in the way in which the adopted person rethinks his own adoptive experience and sheds light on the ways in which the adoptive history of a partner is revisited internal conjugal and family dynamics.
