Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The salient passages of Toniolo's formation are considered, especially with regard to his interests in economic history. The strong influence of the German historical-economic school and the desire to find a Christian response to the new economic and social structures directed Toniolo to study Tuscany and in particular Florence in the Middle Ages, where he saw the moment of greatest artistic and cultural splendor and at the same time, the most convincing realization of ideals of balanced cohabitation based on the Christian faith.
