Giovanni Battista Corniani. Storico della letteratura italiana

[Autom. eng. transl.] In the literary field Giovanni Battista Corniani dealt with various subjects, producing literary criticism works of discontinuous value, but starting a historiography that takes into consideration literary phenomena in close connection with those who produce them. In the work "The centuries of literature" it is limited to tracing the history of individual personalities in relation to the civil, cultural and spiritual life of the period, collecting material relating to individual authors without a precise critical method. Nonetheless, Corniani's work remains of some relevance for the presence of a historical conscience that allows the author to make less summary judgments than those of Tiraboschi and already precursors of those of Ugoni and Scalvini.
