Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Comparative research between young people from different territorial areas appears necessary in a country like Italy from heterogeneous socio-economic characteristics and with a fracture between the North and the South observed over time starting from the first historiographic analysis approaches on the South up to contemporary studies declined in the variety of economic, sociological, political, cultural and overall interdisciplinary perspectives. Among these, the contribution Il Mezzogiorno in the new European geography of inequalities of the Svimez Report of 2019 focuses on a series of critical issues: an increasingly evident gap between North and South, a collapse in public investments, an alarming demographic crisis, an escape of young people from their regions of origin and female employment at significantly lower levels than male, which places the southern regions at the bottom of Europe. In light of what has been said, this chapter proposes a territorial reading of the data, which examines both structural and "agentive" factors, that is, referring to the subject's ability to actively act on his or her condition.
