Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The aim of this chapter is to describe the characteristics of NEETs in terms of conditions and attitudes - useful for cognitive purposes on the phenomenon but also potentially capable of providing help indications for interception and engagement measures - going beyond not only the data of public statistics, but also experimenting with combination with innovative sources. In detail, the structure of the chapter is as follows. Paragraph 2 proposes a focus on NEETs, analyzing their working condition, life choices, personality, attitudes, future planning and behavior, with particular attention to the relationship with new forms of digital communication. Paragraph 3 presents the project "Interpreting Neet in Italy through data from social media: the LikeYouth project", aimed at using data from social media to interpret, profile, reach and communicate with young people. It is evident that purely digital work methods can not only be effective, but also efficient and scientifically robust. In paragraph 4 the first results of this methodology are shown, showing the associations existing between the personal characteristics of young people (in particular their working condition) and digital behaviors, but also how such behaviors can be predictive and explanatory of a certain condition. Finally the concluding paragraph is dedicated to a critical reflection on the results and proposing new possible intervention strategies.
