Abstract
The book offers some specific profiles which allow for an insight into La Pira’s soul and for a deep comprehension of his extraordinary vocation. He brings to all human beings a message of authentic spiritual freedom which is expressed in loving everyone in the most radical and universal way. He pays special attention to the dialogue between religions and hopes that they will gather in the name of peace. The sequence of these essays displays a whole portrait of La Pira’s character. The series is opened by a contribution on La Pira as man of evangelic peace, written by Antonio Scivoletto, an expert about his figure; follows an insightful comment by Giuseppe Bellia on La Pira’s reading of the scriptures and an account of La Pira as a mystic by Elisabetta Zambruno. La Pira as a politician is seen through Ugo De Siervo’s authoritative memory; La Pira as an expert of Roman law is examined by a specialist like Giampaolo Azzoni and La Pira as a thomist is investigated by Carmelo Vigna. At last, a detailed account of La Pira’s writings is offered by Pier Antonio Carnemolla, famous scholar of La Pira’s heritage.
In particular, the essay La Pira as a mystic by Elisabetta Zambruno illustrates how the value of the human being is seen as coming from the creation in the image of God, so that the final purpose is also in going back to God. The end of human life is then contemplation, which displays the love for God and for the other human beings at the same time. A primacy thus given to contemplation but at the same time a value recognized to being engaged in the society.
