Gioacchino da Fiore predicatore della crociata

[Autom. eng. transl.] Two letters of Innocent III, between the end of August and the beginning of September 1198, testify to the plan to involve Gioacchino da Fiore in the preaching of the crusade in Sicily, together with other members of the ecclesiastical hierarchy. The contribution verifies the coordinates of the enterprise in the doctrinal construction of the Calabrian abbot, highlighting the texts and the "figurae" - its diagrammatic-symbolic production - which recall the theme. The episodes in which the theme of the crusade and the confrontation with Islam were at the center of the relations, directed or mediated by the writings, between Gioacchino and the sovereigns and popes of his time are also examined. Finally, on the basis of some documentary evidence and in connection with episodes of the first hagiography, for which precise chronological references can be found, the possibility is verified that the abbot actually took part in the preaching of the crusade in Sicily banned by the pope .
