Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Among the numerous publications favored by the celebration of the seventh centenary of Dante Alighieri's death, Gian Luca Potestà's study Dante in conclave is one of the most unique. Written with the usual rigor and honesty that does not spare documented and grounded - always polite - criticisms of "interpretative narcissisms", the survey offers a historical-philosophical perspective on ecclesiology, religiosity and prophecy in Dante, a line previously drawn by Ernesto Bonaiuti, Raffaello Morghen and Raul Manselli, "recently demoted to witnesses of historiographically concluded seasons" (p. 10). The volume, divided into twelve chapters, includes as an appendix the new edition of the Letter to the Cardinals, usually referred to as Dante's Epistle to the Italian Cardinals. It is also enriched by an extensive bibliography (particularly interesting in the section dedicated to the Sources) and by a series of indexes (of manuscripts, biblical passages and names).
