Giacomo Filippo Opicelli's 'Monumenta Bibliothecae Ambrosianae' in three books is the first history of the Ambrosiana Library founded by Federico Borromeo. The first book describes its institution and building;: furthermore it focuses on the foundation of the 'Collegio dei Dottori', The other two books tell the travels of Borromeos's emissaries in search of manuscripts and printed books through Europe and Middle East.
