Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The article analyzes Kafka's short story "Auf der Galerie" from a new perspective, considered by critics to be "now a classic piece of contemporary literature" and, at the same time, "one of the greatest proofs of virtuosity", of the writer's "linguistic artistry" Prague. Composed between December 1916 and January 1917 and included in the volume Ein Landarzt. Kleine Erzählungen - A country doctor. Short stories, which appeared in the spring of 1920 at the Kurt Wolff publisher in Leipzig, "Auf der Galerie" offers an unusual key to understanding Kafka's inner world and existential condition, particularly in the central years of his activity . In the binary structure of the story it is also possible to recognize, in a still essential form, the "narrative paradigm" underlying the whole production of the Prague writer; while the constellation of the characters and their reciprocal relations reveal, upon careful comparison, a visionary and metaphorical transposition of that 'conflict with the father' that he would have found in the "Brief an den Vater" - "Letter to the father" (1919) his most accomplished literary stylization.
