Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The issue of AIS/Design Journal on the history of design photography1 was born on the thrust of a finally explicit and full recognition, which took place in the recently, of the role of photography in the development of design culture. We have finally become aware of the not only commercial function of product images and the virtuous interweaving that photography establishes with editorial and advertising graphics. This acknowledgment does not it might have been so open if it hadn't been in the last ten to fifteen years put his hand to a series of archives of photographers who had made design the their main field of application, revealing their absolute authorial quality. Thus the prejudice that saw design photography as a "minor genre", to which the pre-eminent purpose had contributed to relegating it commercial and the fact of being carried out on commission.
