Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay provides clarifications on the activity of the most important Lombard carvers' workshops carried out in the shadow of the Vigevanese churches and brotherhoods between 1490 and 1527. The text presents new archive data that emerged during a systematic research initiated by some years, intertwining them with the analysis of some important surviving works in Vigevano and in Lomellina. The aim is to mend and give greater thickness to the torn figurative city fabric, where carving and painting interpenetrate to create a unicum. In addition to presenting new works, attributions and new archive data, the essay anticipates both the discovery of an unpublished document on Leonardo da Vinci and, above all, the dissolution, by crossing documents and monuments, of an enigma of Lombard art history (and Italian), given that the stylistic litmus test comes from Vigevano: the name of the Master of the Pala Sforzesca.
