Abstract

How can newly ordained priests be helped to fit into a rapidly changing society? To provide an answer to this problem, after World War II, cardinal Schuster created the Istituto Sacerdotale Maria Immacolata. Based on the latest archive documents, this study reconstructs the events that marked the beginnings of an institution still poorly known today, the history of which allows us to learn more about new aspects concerning the society and the Ambrosian clergy of the 1950s.
