[Autom. eng. transl.] The article traces an overview of the history of modern Central American literature. It begins with the assessment of Rubén Darío and his contribution to Hispanic American literary modernism, continues with Salarrué and his linguistic-narrative revolution, continues with Ernesto Cardenal and exteriorismo and ends with the testimony of Rigoberta Menchú. The thesis of the article is that without these authors the current literature of Central America could not be explained.
