Abstract
A distinctive feature of globalization processes is the presence of many flows that traverse the planet. Among these, there are also significant flows of people moving from one part of the world to another. Flows of people which generate the meeting of different cultures, meeting which is particularly problematic when the people who move are migrants: people who settle permanently in a society and in a cultural context different from that of provenance. Among the actors who can help facilitate the process of integration of migrants within the host society, current literature tends to include immigrant associations. In particular, immigrant associations are deemed to play a role in mediating between the migrants themselves and the host country institutions. Starting from these premises, the article outlines the main findings of a research project devoted to the study of migrant associations in the province of Milan.
