Abstract

Philosophy has contributed to the Italian national identity, but in order to find an accomplished form of expression it had to set aside several general, coercive beliefs to achieve freedom, both in its form and in the contents, which are gathered in a complex and dynamic heritage. With Dante a process begins, of creation of a linguistic-literary unity which translated itself in a civil philosophy, a religious and cultural unity which preceded the political unity and which represented a school of ideal and social freedom.
