The essay publishes eight unpublished letters of the barnabita Alessandro Ghignoni to Tommaso Gallarati Scotti, and highlights one of the knots in the dense mesh network that held together some of the most prominent exponents of Italian Catholicism in the early twentieth century. In those years, Ghignoni engaged in the interesting and little known attempt to create a small college for orphans in Venice, according to an original project that was detached from the tradition of the great colleges of his congregation, and tried to involve Gallarati Scotti in the project.
