Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The need to review the functioning of hospitals in the light of the evolution of society and the needs of the patient lies at the origin of this work which, from the analysis of the numerous problems currently present and highlighted even more by the pandemic, tends to propose solutions organizational and management to improve the care offer. The first part takes into consideration changes in the institutional governance of companies and hospitals and in the relations between regional health services and peripheral companies. In the same perspective, the management models of the technostructure and the health technology system are analyzed with references to international experiences. In particular, the need to improve the quality of production and productivity hitherto considered "politically incorrect" in hospitals is underlined. A larger group of contributions concerns financial management and highlights both managerial waste and cost reduction proposals. The last parts of the volume analyze the simple and complex health needs of citizens as they arise during hospitalizations and outline the trend of the new epidemiology which significantly influences the demand for treatment. The COVI D-19 pandemic with its original organisational, managerial and clinical problems has also been used to highlight the hospital's capabilities and supply difficulties during a state of exception.
