Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] "New education needed, not new universities" (NF-1870, 8 [93]); "The ancient means of education: competition and love" (NF- 1871/1872, 16 [14]); "I'm really behind now, the terrible gaps in our education (I'm thinking of the gate and the universities and other things) to be stuffed later on myself”. In these three fragments, the first two from Friedrich Nietzsche's estate and the third from a letter to his friend Carl von Gersdorff (July 21, 1875), placed at the beginning of the book, the hermeneutic challenge of education in Nietzsche and Grasberger, a monograph by Fabien Jégoudez, which was published by Tectum in 2023 as volume 43 in the Scientific Contributions: Philosophy series, and at the same time tackled anew. After hundreds of thousands of publications about Nietzsche, writing about the philosopher von Röcken is becoming more and more of a challenge: It is above all a matter of tracking down unpublished or little-trodden paths in his kaleidoscopic philosophy and in the whirlpool of critical debates, which are sometimes still glowing, sometimes already cooled off and to tread. So says Fabien Jégoudez, longtime researcher and interpreter of philosophy Nietzsches, member of the Nietzsche Society and author of numerous international scientific articles as well as a monograph on the subject of education in Nietzsche's thinking entitled Nietzsche et les savants. Essai sur la Bildung et la pseudo-Bildung, published in 2022 by the Paris publishing house Connaissances et Savoirs. And this time Jégoudez's foray into the panorama of "Bildung bei Nietzsche" is even more precise and astute, precisely in that he cleverly carves out the figure of Lorenz Grasberger and places it in a completely new relationship to Nietzsche (this is currently the only publication in the endless Weimar Nietzsche -bibliography in which Grasberger's name appears). Finally, it is Jégoudez himself who finds that his research compares two names, Nietzsche and Grasberger, one universally recognized, the other so forgotten that to this day it is known only to a small circle of scholars.
