Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The imposing phenomenon of the exiles of Athenian citizens under the oligarchy of the Thirty Tyrants poses several problems. Alongside the chronological questions, it is necessary to address the problem of the number of exiles, the causes of exiles, the places where the exiles took refuge etc. After studying these issues in 1994 (exiles, deportations and forced emigrations to Athens under undemocratic regimes, in emigration and immigration in the ancient world, CISA 20, 141-167), I would now like to focus on the sources that inform us about the request for extradition and on the summary arrest of the exiles. The testimonies of Lysias, Demosthenes, Diodorus, Plutarch (Life of Lysander and Life of Pelopida) and Justin inform us about the initiative of the Spartans in support of the Thirty Titans regarding the exiles (a decree addressed to the Greeks who asked for collaboration for the extortion and the arrest of the Athenian refugees, on the extension of the rivenmdicatione ("all Greece"), on the threats against the Greeks (fine, exclusion from the treaties), on the reaction of the Greeks. They highlight, on the one hand, the position legal framework of refugees and their daily difficulties, on the other, the relations of close collaboration between Sparta and the Thirty Tyrants and the sometimes controversial relations between Sparta and the rest of the Greek model, whose hegemony claimed at this time.
