Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] We present the evaluation experience of M@t.abel, an in-service training course for math teachers at middle school. The impact of training on student learning was estimated using two randomized experiments - a method still little used in the Italian context. The evaluation has shown that training, even if appreciated by teachers, has some weaknesses and these can undermine its effectiveness in terms of raising students' skills. However, different effects have been identified on teachers, which go in the direction of the actual adoption of a new teaching method and the construction of professional networks in the school world. Finally, the experience of evaluating the intervention revealed that there is an openness on the part of Italian schools towards conducting controlled experiments, but that it is useful to accompany these with implementation analyzes.
