Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The early identification of atypical development trajectories (dyslexia, dysorthography and dysgraphia) and the implementation of interventions aimed at reducing learning difficulties (not attributable to real specific disorders) can not only promote scholastic skills, but also allow to prevent discomfort, supporting self-efficacy, study motivation and self-esteem (Arsa & Sibelia, 2013). The text presents an educational intervention, EUREKA (EntUsiasmo, RicErca, CApacità), based on cognitive and psycholinguistic models, for the enhancement of reading and writing skills to be implemented in the class group or in the small group according to the principles of cooperative learning. The training consists of activities to increase sensitivity to the distributional properties of the language (orthographic segments, rhymes, morphemes, words) and aims to develop metacognitive strategies for understanding the text. The group's management methods are also aimed at supporting motivation and a sense of self-efficacy in learning to read and write. In particular, the EUREKA educational program and the original from which derives, in English, RAVE-O (Reading, Automaticity, Vocabulary, Engagement-Orthography) (Wolf, Miller and Donnelly, 2000), highlight not only phonology, but also to linguistic components such as vocabulary and semantics, providing appropriate tools and strategies to improve reading and writing skills (Wolf et al., 2009). The central idea around which the program was built is that the more information the child has about a word (ie, phonemes, spelling sequences, meanings, syntactic uses and morphological structure), the faster the word is decoded, retrieved and understood. The structure of the lessons varies, but always includes strategies for improving rapid word retrieval, including exploring common spelling patterns and related sounds, discussing multiple word meanings, reviewing grammar and syntax knowledge , reading and discussion of the text.
