Abstract

Suggestions worked out by UPOV as well as by other literature sources with regard to procedures to be applied when essentially derived varieties need to be recognized are put under consideration. Special attention is paid to the use of molecular markers to ascertain and state genetic conformity. In the end, how essentiality of traits of a derived variety with respect to its starting material must be understood is discussed.
