After a brief historical sketch, the article focuses on the centrality of the metaphysical perspective in the scientific and cultural tradition of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. This instance is declined in a rigorous enquiry on human being in its whole, that underlines the binomial existence-identity, which is the subject of the essays here introduced. In this way, metaphysics can answer the question of sense that has always characterized the human being, also facing the provocations of the contemporary age. The result is a positive lecture of metaphysics, as a crisis, which turns itself to the original and to the unthought.
