Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The world of the polis, the second tome of the Order and history of Eric Voegelin, is published for the first time in a complete Italian translation, including a new translation of many of the Greek sources cited, an apparatus of comment notes and various indexes that facilitate understanding and use. Voegelin reconstructs an original parable of the evolution of the 'philosophical form' typical of the Greek order, starting from its beginnings in the Cretan civilization, up to its full development in the Sophistic age. The main stages of the investigation are marked by the figures of Homer, Hesiod, Tirteus, Solon, Xenophanes, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Aeschylus, Herodotus, Thucydides, the Sophists.
