Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] According to the evidence presented here, the increase in the protein content of alfalfa fodder can be achieved through a correct varietal choice and a timely mowing, performed at an early phenological stage (floral buttons). On the other hand, to reduce the fibrous components of the forage and therefore increase their digestibility and energy content, the varietal characteristics seem to be less important, but the effect of the moment of cutting is prevalent. It must not be forgotten, however, that in the selection of the varieties the adaptability to the environment, productivity and persistence must first of all be taken into consideration; on these parameters the lists of varietal orientation for alfalfa are built, as well as for other forages, presented in this same issue of the journal.
