Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume analyzes the characteristics of the ecclesiastical organization of the archdiocese of Chieti in the age of the Counter-Reformation in its various components: first of all the bishops, almost all of high profile both for cultural formation and for the quality of pastoral commitment, then the clergy , often recalcitrant to the attempts at discipline imposed from above and to the very proposals of acculturation and doctrinal updating, and finally to the laity, who far from flattening into a subordinate role, give life to forms of active and articulated presence, of which they are an example the widespread brotherhoods.
