Abstract
The article reconstructs the path that led Galileo to the discovery of Jupiter's satellites, taking into consideration a series of documents, often overlooked by historians, that prove essential to understanding when exactly he realised that he had discovered four new celestial bodies revolving around Jupiter that no one had ever observed before.
