Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Object of the paper: The debate in the Corporate Communication, Organizational Communication and Public Relations literature maintains that internal communication is of vital importance for the management and success of organizations. Although communication scholars emphasize the strategic role of internal communication, so far an exhaustive framework capable of including the components of this strategic contribution has not been developed. The objective of the paper is to discuss the strategic contribution of internal communication to support the management and development of organizations by referring to the entrepreneurial theories of the company. Methodology: To this end, an extensive analysis of internal communication literature will be carried out in order to systematize this literature on the basis of the Entrepreneurial Communication Paradigm (ECP), a framework that interprets the strategic role of communication in the light of the Entrepreneurial Organization Theories. Results: Adopting the perspective promoted by the ECP, we propose that internal communication activities play a central role, enriching the strategic contribution of communication at different levels, in particular by supporting the development of the organization and activating the entrepreneurial drive of the organizational subjects. Research limits: The study represents an analysis of the literature that in the future will be appropriate to consolidate through case studies. Practical implications: The study helps to systematize knowledge on the strategic role of internal communication and returns a more complete look at the objectives that can be entrusted to this to contribute to the success of the organization. Originality of the work: The paper proposes entrepreneurial studies as the key to understanding the strategic contribution of internal communication, thus anchoring the issue of internal communication in business theories
