Abstract
The paper aims to honour the memory of two outstanding Italian Scholars,
who devoted all their whole lives to studying Aristotle’s Metaphysics: Giovanni
Reale († 2014) and Enrico Berti († 2022). Analysing some relevant passages in
books Alpha and Lambda of the Metaphysics, the paper synoptically compares
Reale’s and Berti’s translations, highlighting analogies and differences. The most relevant points of this comparison are two: 1) a critical consideration of the Platonic background and post-Platonic exegesis while reading Aristotle; 2) the theoretical value of metaphysics as an open discussion about the possibility for human rational thought to open itself to God as the supreme good and ultimate goal of the universe.
