Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Introduction. In literature, structural empowerment and job satisfaction have been extensively studied in different work settings. Their relevance to nurses with coordination functions is not very well known. Target. The study aims to assess the level of structural empowerment of the coordinating nurses and whether this affects their job satisfaction. Material and methods. A cross sectional type analytical study design was used. 125 coordinators were enrolled in three Roman hospital facilities. For the data collection, a questionnaire was used which included both a part for the collection of socio-personal data and the two scales (job satisfaction and structural empowerment). Data analysis was performed with the SPSS19.0 statistical software and the significance level was set for p <0.005. Results. The nurse coordinators stated that they were not very satisfied with the work (Media = 3.43), while moderate (Average = 3.16) resulted in their level of structural empowerment. The structural empowerment of the coordinating nurses influences their job satisfaction (p <0.001) especially in some dimensions of the scale such as opportunities for social and professional interaction, praise and recognition and control / responsibility. Conclusions. The results of this study underline the influence of structural empowerment in the job satisfaction of coordinating nurses. Healthcare organizations with a view to the quality of the service provided must focus on the work satisfaction of the staff and more on that of the coordinators for the implications these have on the satisfaction of the nurses
